[wdmaudiodev] how to install checked build of ks.sys?

Hi,

I'm getting strange crashes with my early-in-development avstream minidriver, which occur deep in ks.sys. To get to the bottom of the problem, I tried installing the checked version of ks.sys (which i extracted from the sp2.cab file in the XP SP2 Checked Build installer package).

After managing to replace my system's ks.sys (no mean feat thanks to the system file protection system), I can no longer load my driver! Hardware manager reports error code 39 (driver corrupt or missing). Switching ks.sys back lets me load my driver again.

So I must be missing a trick here, how does one get the checked build of ks.sys installed, without installed the full checked OS?
