[audacity4blind] my audio file is in pieces

Hi all,
I'm running a gateway laptop, Windows xp pro, Jaws 12.0.525, and Audacity 1.3.7.
Here's the problem. I record, by pressing r, then, when I'm done, I press
spacebar to stop the recording.
My problem is, when I save it, my audio file is in 20 pieces.
How can I set audacity to record the entire audio file, and not put it in
pieces?
