Hi Cindy,

Ok, here is what I have been able to determine.

In the options there is a setting that says something like multiple pages. If my wife has that checked then she can open the book and scan both pages at once. FineReader will then split the 2 pages and place them one after the other instead of being side by side.

We have also now figured out how to get it to let her continually scan and save in one file. There is a manual setting, I can't remember the exact name of the setting. She changed it from Automatic to manual and now it works the way we wanted. I don't know why we didn't notice it before.

I hope this helps you some too.

Not that I know of--and that's a problem I've been
having with Fine Reader Sprint 5. How does she get to
do two pages at once nd convert?

When I had an older ABBY OCR I could scan and convert
up to 12 pages at a time and save them as a single
document. I forget the setting for that. Sometimes he
OCR would freeze or crash and I'd have to do fewer
pages. Theoretically it could do 20 pages at once but
practically I was never able to do that.

When I got a new scanner, though, and even the old
scanner with a new OS (I use a Mac) I have the Fine
Reader Sprint 5. In some ways it's quicker than the
older OCR but I can only scan and save one page at a
time. Timewise, however, that seems quicker than then
I was saving 10 or 12 pages. I create a new folder and
save the pages in that folder. Then, when I'm
finished, I copy them one at a time onto a single
document.

NOW--this may be because I don't have the complete
Fine Reader. I noticed in the upper right-hand corner
that it says Upgrade Now. When I open that I'm told
that I'm working with a "version distributed with
scanners or multifinctional devices" and I should
download a trial version of Abby Fine Reader Pro for
the Mac. But after a two-week trial, I'd have to pay
for it. I went to the site--if you don't have a Mac
you could probably get a Fine Reader 8. I didn't look
long enough to find the one for the Mac, but the 8
upgrade is $180, and a new 8 is $400. I think when I
checked for myself last time an upgrade for me would
cost a couple of hundred, too, and for the little
scanning I do--just missing pages for people, though
once that ended up being a third of the book--I'd
rather not spend the money.

If you find a way to scan and save several pages at a
time, please let me know. smile

Cindy

Hi all,

My wife asked me to see if anyone out there has any
ideas for her.

She is working on scanning the meritbadge pamphlets
and is also working on scanning the Anne Perry book
"Tathea" that I have been interested in.

Her question is this:

When she scans FineReader is scanning 2 pages at
once just fine. However, when it is ready for the
next pages it is forcing her to save what she has
scanned to that point in a file. Is there a way to
get FineReader to scan all the pages of a book into
one file instead of many files?

We are using Abby FineReader Sprint 5.0. I know
this is a fairly old version of FineReader but we
can't afford a new version at this time.

Thanks.
