Okay, I did more poking around in K`1000. If you choose the option to save as
Ms Word 2007 you'll get docx.

Hi Judy,
K1000 doesn't have an option for saving as docx. You can save as doc and that
would probably serve the purpose of skipping rtf.

Evan, if you haven't tried this, instead of making an rtf file for Lissi with
this scan, create a docx from your scan and see if it's the same.

Well, even though those eleven pages I scanned that previously had them did
not have borders this time, I scanned a 141 page book today with my Optikbook
3900, (8 Roman numeral pages, 133 Arabic numeral pages). The borders started
on Roman iv, and went all the way up to page 116. The final 17 pages did not
have any. So it seems kind of arbitrary, not to mention a bit discouraging.
Having to mess with border settings for a hundred and twenty pages in one
book, and as far as I know, perhaps most of the pages in every book I do from
now on, is a pretty bleak prospect for my volunteering future here at
Bookshare.
But at any rate, it's not the scanner. That's progress I guess.
