One thing I have learned about computers and devices with computer software is that when in doubt reboot. That does not always solve a problem, but when one of these devices starts misbehaving rebooting really does often solve the problem. I have no experience with Kurzweil, but uninstalling and reinstalling is tantamount to rebooting the software. So I would think it would be worth a try.

“This is what science always has to do, but religion will not do that. While scientists themselves may be religious individuals of many different faiths, their methodology was designed to be the antithesis of faith—it requires that all assumptions be questioned, that all proposed explanations be based on demonstrable evidence, and that all hypotheses be testable and potentially falsifiable. Blaming magic is never acceptable because miracles aren't explanations of any kind, and there has never been a single instance in history when assuming the supernatural has ever improved our understanding of everything. In fact, such excuses have only ever impeded our attempts at discovery.” ― Aron Ra, Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism

Hey Evan,
I know very little about scanners and software. But just for the fun of it,
have you uninstalled and re-installed Kurzweil? I don't remember if that was on
the list of things you'd tried, but I figured I'd ask.

Maybe it sounds silly, but sometimes my phone does weird things, and if I
restart it, it behaves. Maybe Kurzweil will behave similarly?

Hey Guys,

Well, even though those eleven pages I scanned that previously had them did not
have borders this time, I scanned a 141 page book today with my Optikbook 3900,
(8 Roman numeral pages, 133 Arabic numeral pages). The borders started on Roman
iv, and went all the way up to page 116. The final 17 pages did not have any.
So it seems kind of arbitrary, not to mention a bit discouraging. Having to
mess with border settings for a hundred and twenty pages in one book, and as
far as I know, perhaps most of the pages in every book I do from now on, is a
pretty bleak prospect for my volunteering future here at Bookshare.

But at any rate, it's not the scanner. That's progress I guess.

Evan
