Hi, I agree with your suggestions. The volunteer manual can be overwhelming to say the least and with new requirements to produce better scanning and volunteer results, it can seem that perfection is wanted whether it is or not, and a mentor could help pave the way and smooth things out so new volunteers aren't scared away. Have a blessed day. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Melissa Smith" <mdsmith25@xxxxxxxx>

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Beginning Volunteer Ideas

Jamie's comment about volunteers not knowing what they don't know and possibly having test proofs, sparked some ideas. I think new volunteers should tell Bookshare what software they are using to scan or proof, and be matched with experienced volunteers, using similar software, who have agreed to be mentors. The new volunteer should be sent files pertaining to their specific software, and do test runs before actually beginning to scan or proof materials. They can contact their mentor at any time if they run into issues. These are just my ideas, and my desire is to get the highest quality books into the collection.
