Guido, Does it really matter if the page number at the bottom of the page is on the very last line as long as there is a blank line between it and the text? ----- Original Message ----- From: Guido Corona To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, January 11, 2008 2:18 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Book without blank lines at top/bottom of pages You are both correct. By themselves, blank lines at the top and bottom of pages are completely optional. However, the same blank lines become very important when delimiting page numbers in running page headers and footers. Here is how it works: If the book has page numbers at the top of pages -- usually in what is called a running header -- the page number should appear all by itself on the top line (line 1) of the page and should be left justified. The page number should be immediately followed by a blank line. The repeating part of any page header -- usually the name of the author or the title of the book -- should be completely deleted including any related spaces or tabs. If the book has page numbers at the bottom of pages -- usually in what is called a running footer -- the page number should appear all by itself on the very bottom line of the page and should be left justified. The page number should be immediately preceeded by a blank line. The repeating part of any page header -- usually the name of the author or the title of the book -- should be deleted, including any spaces or tabs. I hope this helps. G.
