I believe that Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional can convert untagged.pdf files into text which then can be converted into Daisy format. Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 has its own OCR function so can rescan unrecognizable scanned images into images that can be read by screen readers such as ZoomText and possibly JAWS. The conversion is not perfect and volunteers need to make sure that the scanning is accurate. Jim, by no means, wants to minimize the use of other formats. But, a properly formed DAISY file will prepare excellent other format files as well. Hope this helps.
