Hi Evan and everyone!Several years ago, I bought a print cookbook for a blind friend, because it had a recipe she had been looking for for some time. I scanned and proofread the scan, correcting the fractions with the optacon. It was quite labor intensive, but I enjoy doing that sort of thing. She was thrilled with the book. This was before I had heard of bookshare. This must have been six or seven years ago. I am in the process of scanning all of my cookbooks and of course, putting all of them on Bookshare, but have slowed down considerably since I started proofreading. Bookshare has all I have finished so far.

A totally blind person with an Optacon could do it, although those fractions can be quite small. Still, I've used my Optacon to check and make corrections to fractions for a few recipes in a book or two that didn't scan well. It would be a hassle if there were a lot of them, though, say a whole recipe book where the fractions didn't come out. Yet I think a sufficiently dedicated person with good Optacon skills could do it if they really wanted to.Evan ----- Original Message ----- From: <mailto:llumpkin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>Larry Lumpkin To: <mailto:bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, March 26, 2010 9:51 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: question please thank you. we've had a lot of troble with cookbooks.
