Covers almost always contain more than just title and author. Most of it, especially on the front cover, though, has little relevance to our purposes. It usually consists of photographs, artwork and blurb. It is the back cover and dust jacket flaps that are important to our purposes. Those frequently contain a synopsis.

Hi Mary,On covers I have a question as well. When you talk a cover I am assuming it has the title and author is there supposed to be anything else on that page?-----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mayrie ReNae Sent: Saturday, June 19, 2010 19:01 To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Covers Hi Debby,The jacket flaps or back cover are fine for long synopsis material. You'reright. Just no reviews. No worries. I thought the only rule about the long synopsis is that we are not allowed to grab a publisher's review from Amazon or any place like that. Am I right? I use at least some of the jacket or back cover information for my long synopses, because it often gives a good description of what the book is about. Debby At 07:38 AM 6/16/2010, EVAN REESE wroteI never heard any rule about that. While I definitely would not include it within the book, I really don't see why you couldn't use it for the long synopsis on the submission form if you wanted to. I mean, it's just telling what the book is about, so it's going to pretty much be the same thing no matter which edition it's from, right? Unless it specifically says that it contains revised text, or somehow indicates in some way that it's different from other editions, I don't see the problem. But I don't think it would be appropriate to put it in the actualfile of the book.Evan ----- Original Message ----- From: <mailto:garyp130@xxxxxxxxxxx>Gary Petraccaro To: <mailto:bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, June 16, 2010 7:09 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Covers We should not use the paperback cover blurb for either anotherpaperback edition or a hardcover edition of the same title. Is that right? Is there a resource for cover info for any edition of a book? (Just hoping.)-- mailto:<the.bee@xxxxxxxxxxx> --Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don't have.
