Hi Tim,
 
There are probably less clunky ways of doing this, but here's what I'd do:
 
Place your cursor at the top of the section that you don't want in the book.
Press shift+downarrow until all of the text that you want gone is
highlighted/selected
Try to highlight any page breaks that you want to get rid of as well.
Press control+x to cut the text.
All of the text that you don't want should be gone.
Save so you don't lose your changes!

A book I'm proofing has two pages that don't belong. There are only 173
pages in the book, but after page XXIII in the front matter, is page 248 and
a blank page! After that the Intro continues. How do I get rid of the two
pages? I'm using Word 2003.
