Dear Nancy,

You aren't alone. This group got me up and going, letting me learn through their experience, to validate, that is. Sadly I bought the wrong scanner for Open book, and it's collected dust 4 2 years, an HP all in one, expensive but with no twain which I think in computer talk means no brain!

It sounds like you have solid help, though, and I'm contributing some encouragement. Soon you'll be writing to ask if we have any book requests you can scan for us and Bookshare.

Always with love,

Lissi

Monica,

I am very pleased to have the opticbook 3600 scanner. It comes with
FineReader 5.sprint. My husband, who is sighted, worked several hours
yesterday to see how to get the machine cranked up, but no luck yet.
Tom H is going to help me learn to turn out good scans. I also have
OmniPage15.

I am frustrated to say that for some reason I am having a horrid time
trying to deal with something called 'Presto Page Manager...and trying
to just get the creature ' to scan in general. Also, I wonder if it
can be set to scan 2 pages at once, or do I have to position one side of
the book off the glass and scan pages one at a time...Usually I am not
such a dunce when it comes to operating things...but I tend to learn
best by availing myself of the 'monkey see, monkey do' school of
thought. smile.

David used the cd that came with the scanner has read as much material
as he can get on its operation, but somehow the key to the scanner's
operation still eludes us. I have Jake's volunteer tips on my desktop.

Frustration, thy name is scanner!

Nancy
