I heard Grizzard speak at MS State once. He was great at telling stories. I'm not as enthused about his books, however. Although I did enjoy They Tore Out My Heart And Stomped That Sucker Flat. I've read a couple more, but didn't care for them that much. If I had, then I'd be scanning them because I think my father has all of his books. I made the mistake of giving him his first couple for Christmas one time, and he didn't come up for air until he'd finished reading them. Then he went out and bought two or three more the next time my mother made him take her to Memphis to the mall. Grizzard had a story he told related to how he pronounces his name with the accent on the second sylable where he talks about Mr. RaBit, Mr. Ool, and Mr. Turtell, three animals who all change the pronunciation of their names when they win the lottery so that they'll sound more distinguished. Always reminds me of Madelyn Buzzard who reads for NLS when I think of it since she accents the second sylable of her name like the rabbit and turtle did in the story.
