Hi, Cindy. I think you're right. My Mom did let me help in the kitchen, and she showed me how to do a lot of the basics. Once you know those, you can usually teach yourself the rest, and that's what I've done, but I love to cook now. I think it's probably true that if you let them do it young, they'll grow up liking it, or at least that's how it seems to have worked for me. Take care. Thank you for taking the time to write it. What's O & M? Your mother sounds much like me, except I'm not as much into hiking, etc. I guess I did enough little hikes and walks with the kids, though, because my daughters, especially the young one, love it and camping. We did plant vegetables--tomatoes and pumpkins--easy to plant and care for and delicious to eat. And we tried to plant corn, but we did't really have enough room in the back yard to space the ears as far apart as they should be. And we planted an avocado pit which did grow into a tree but ever bore fruit. We didn't know there had to be both a male and a female, or that you could graft (we did try that but it did't work) but it was fun seeing the pit grow. Notice the only "gardening" we did had to do with food and didn't require any work--just plant and watch grow. I was like your mother re cooking, too. But I had read, when the children were very young, that if you let your children help you in the kitchen, when they are grown they'll like to cook and bake and you won't have to. So I gritted my teeth and let them help and that advice was true. My daughters like to cook and bake. Now that they are grown and gone I don't cook at all.
