I like the CanoScan LIde scanners for portable scanning. It's
lightweight, fast, and has reasonably good results. I carry one in my
laptop bag for when I travel. However, portable scanners generally
don't produce the highest scan quality since they have a shorter focal
range for get an image of a page, and they tend to have less
dimensional scanning capability. Having said that, I scanned around 50
books for Bookshare using my CanoScan. It just meant a little extra
time spent optimizing the scan in Kurzweil and a little more
proofreading time once I'd scanned the book.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your scanner purchase.
