The manual says that brightness setting has no bearing on grayscale.  I get
no better results than you do except in particular situations.  Usually, I
find bookcovers come out better in grayscale.  I also found one book came
out better in grayscale.  There is a time savings when not having to
optimize and reoptimize and that may be important to you.  My finding is
that a well-done static page will be .3-.5 percent better than grayscale for
most of the pages I have done.

about 65. I never thought the brightness setting mattered with grayScale,
because it's automatically adjusted. Am I mistaken? If so, that might
explain why I haven't always had the results I expected, when using
grayScale.
