That is why we say "Excellent almost no errors" so that if we do change things we weren't supposed to, because most of us don't actually "see" the text, it is o.k. smile. All I can say about Spell check, is see the below poem, smile. Your spell check says it is spelled completely correctly. obviously it is not. Smile. The following poem appeared in a UK national daily. If you run it through a spell checker it is accepted as no errors, but make sure the grammer checker is turned off. Text begins: I have a spell in chequer It came with my pea sea It plainly marques for my revue Miss steaks I kin not see As soon as a mist ache is maid It nose bee four two long and eye can put the error rite It's rare lea ever wrong Eye strike a quay and type a word And weight four it two say Weather I am wrong or write It shows me strait a weigh Eye have run this poem threw it I am shore your pleased too no It's letter perfect awl the weigh My chequer tolled me sew. Even when caught, how does one decide on what to correct or not to correct. So far my choices have been hit or miss but as a rule I try to stick with his spelling even when it is just misspelling - he often uses s instead of z in words like realize and I try to leave them as I think he wrote them even if he had not meant to misspell the words. I am a devout believer in the idea that an author's intentions are irrelevant when dealing with what s/he actually wrote even if we know them. I have, however, heard a lot of the opposing point of view to admit that correcting misspellings is not altogether wrong. Having read so many misspelled papers by freshman composition students that I am not always sure of correct spelling, I often look up words but if you don't know the correct spelling looking up a word in a dictionary is not particularly easy. Thank heavens for Spell Checks but they, too, are not always reliable. I would welcome more comments on the subject.
