Hi, Cindy, I can do that if there is no other response. It will be a lot of work though because many of the page numbers do not scan; there will probably be a lot of junk to remove with the pictures, and the dates at tops of pages do not scan at all.
I have a device called an optacon which was manufactured about 35 years ago. It was the first device which enabled blind people to read print because it created raised versions of letters, numbers etc when a camera was moved across a line of print. I still use that device which is how I discovered the dates in very dark borders and the weirdly-shaped page numbers well-hidden at the bottom of pages, but there would be far too much work using an optacon to make the needed corrections.
So, if you are sure you want to do all this work, I'll keep scanning if I get no other responses. And there is no hurry at all.
Maybe Lassie is worth it! Lori----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy" <popularplace@xxxxxxxxx>

Lori,If no responds and if you want to go ahead and scan it and put it up, and if you aren't in a hurry for it, I'll validate it for you. I can get a copy of the print book, but there are holds on it, plus I'm only a third of the way of a tome I must finish before I do anything else.Cindy --- On Tue, 8/12/08, Lori Castner <loralee.castner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:From: Lori Castner <loralee.castner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Request for Scanning Help To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tuesday, August 12, 2008, 3:33 PM Hi, Friends, I recently purchased a book that I was eager to scan: Timmy's in the Well." The book is by Jon Provost who played Timmy in the Lassie series for seven years. The book details his years as a star on "Lassie," and the the issues faced by himself and other child stars. I heard an hour-long interview with Jon Provost and his wife Laurie Jacobson who assisted him with the writing of the book. During the interview, both authors were interesting, soft-spoken and extremely informative. This interview sparked my desire to read the book. Now to my request. I have begun scanning the book and have found that the book contains some script (oddly written) lines, a number of pictures, which makes it difficult for me to read, and dates at the start of pages surrpounded by dark borders, which mean they do not appear in the scan. I am asking if someone else would be willing to scan this book in order to deal with these issues; I could then validate a cleaner text. I really feel sad when I discover a book that I cannot scan to present the book in its true best form, but this book is one of them; I think it would need a scanner with at least some sight who can deal with these concerns. If anyone is willing to scan this book, please contact me offlist at loralee.castner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Thanks in advance.
