Ann,

The documentation was a little unclear as to the division of labor in the workflow. Thank you for those clarifications.

Hi all,

Don, I think your questions can be answered by looking at the manual on the volunteer page, but here are some basic answers. Let me answer them in line, so scroll down.

Original message:
As a new volunteer, I have a few questions regarding how much is
expected by a person who scans the book vs the proofreader.

Since I am visually impaired, scanning is the easy part,. Proofreading
is much more dificult. I can do it, but its just much more tedious.

1. For example, as a scanner, should I remove all the page headers, or
is this something that is acceptable to pass along to the proofreader?

Yes, please remove the page headers.

2. Do I, as the scanner, need to change the chapter title font size?

No that's something the proofer does.

3. Every so often my OCR randomly breaks a paragraph. Should I take the
time to repair that before submitting the scan?

Yes, please.

4. I use Openbook 9 and for some reason it sometimes randomly places a
paragraph, or an entire page, in bold font when I save as RTF. Is that
something I need to correct, or should I just allow the proofreader to
fix that?

That's not as clear, but if you can fix that'd be great.

5. And lastly, every so often there is a pretty mangled line or two. I
assume I do need to correct those, since the proofreader does not have
the "exact view" image available to them. Is this correct? How does that
work?

Yes, if it's a whole line and is not readily understood.  Classic typos like Torn for Tom, are well known and can be fixed by the proofer.

My advice is to keep the scan and the book until the proofer's done with it.  That way you can answer any questions that come up.

Ann P.
