Hi, everyone. I had ordered a book from Borders Books and called them about a
hard plastic strip in the middle of the book. They said that in the middle of
all books over a certain dollar amount, they now put these security strips.
Interestingly, they don't seem to bother scanning results. The Borders
salesperson said that the strips are white. They are not easily removable
without special tools, so if you encounter them, it is hoped that nothing will
be left out as a result. They are close to the binding of the book, and in the
case of hard cover books, there is a wide margin, so this must be the reason
that scans are unaffected.
