Hi Jim, If you don't have Openbook Or Kurtzweil, you should just skip those files altogether and let some one who has the right software validate the book. When you download a book to be validated, you can search for the format you like best to work with. I agree with you. Some times I see a book in the ARK files that needs some really special attention, but since I can't make it in to an RTF file, it ends up being rejected.

The system is set up to track credits based on who submits a book, and resubmitting someone else's book in RTF would cause the submission to be credited to the wrong person if the RTF file is the copy which is validated.The staff has enough to do without having to manually correct problems withcredits. It would also cause the staff and volunteers a nightmare dealing with duplicates.
