yes. you call your local branch of NLS where you get your audio books from,
and tell them you want to obtain a username and password for web braille.
Registering a name is free, so no worries there. All you'll be asked for is
your email address and a desired password,. They will send you an email
containing your username, password confirmation, and a link to their site.
From there, you can do searches of their entire catalog, or simply narrow it
down to only their web braille content.
Once you find a book you want, books are downloaded a braille volume at a
time, so you have to make sure you have all the volumes you want of a given
book.
Just as with bookshare books, they are of brf format. There are free
programs which you can download to back-translate brf into txt files, but if
you have OpenBook or Kurzweil, these programs support brf files, so you can
save the step of back translating. Even easier, if
you have openbook or Kurzweil, is to do your book search directly from
within these programs. You can do your searches by title or author, and they
will search both bookshare, web braille, and other websites all at once, and
import them directly into your computer, saving the bother of using internet
explorer. Additionally, when you choose to download a book, it will download
all the volumes at once, so if you happened to download a nine volume book,
you save a lot of time and bother than if you had done it through internet
explorer.
I will say, that each volume is still a separate file, but with kurzweil,
there is an append option from within the utilities submenu of the file
menu, and this enables you to copy text from one file into another, so you
can very easily condense your multi-volume books.
If you want any help with any of these processes, feel free to email me at
