Ah, that is why. Thanks Cindy. I shall leave the four periods alone, smile. In Braille we have a simple for an ellipsis, which is three dot six... right after another. If the periods aren't right next to each other as happens in some books, we instead get . . . which is extremely annoying, bad transcription of Braille, and takes up three times the space as the ellipsis symbol does. Sue, I'm not sure if you're refering to Braille or text, but ... If in text the ellipsis is intended to indicate that something is omitted from a quoted section, or that a character's speech or thought is unfinished, and the sentence preceding the ellipsis is a complete sentence, then the sentence ends with a period and the ellipsis follows -- so you have a total of four dots. There should be a space between the period and the 3 dots. There's a very clear explanation with examples at http://webster.commnet.edu/grammar/marks/ellipsis.htm Cindy -- siss52 <siss52@xxxxxxx> wrote: > > It is just one dot in Braille, whereas the period is > 3 dots.
