Helpful Steps to submit books to bookshare

I wrote this out for a new volunteer and thought
I would share it here in case anyone is interested.
Preliminary step
Create folder under my documents for book share submissions
This way you can easily find your books when you?re submitting them.
Step 1
Do a save as and Save book file as .RTF and put
in bookshare submissions folder to browse to when
submitting your book to bookshare.
Step 2
Go to bookshare.org
You don?t have to type www. Before a web address short cut hint
Log into bookshare.org
Press e for edit field
Hit enter to turn on forms mode if your using jaws.
Type in author or title to search for book to
verify it isn?t already on bookshare
Step 3
Control f for find
Type Submit a
Then press enter
Press enter on Submit a book
This will take you to submit a book form
Step 4
Press e for edit field until you get to title
Enter the title
If it is a series enter
Title name, (series name # )
Step 5
Tab to combo box language
English is default choice
Step 6
Tab to author
Type in author?s name
If more than one
type a comma between names
example would be
Janette Oke, T.Davis Bunn
Step 7
Tab to copyright holder
Enter copyright holder
You will find this in your book.
Make sure it?s the copyright holder and not the publisher
Read the copyright page from the book to verify
you enter the correct copyright holder
For instance
Janette Oke
Not Bethany House Publishers
If there is more than one name enter it exactly
like it appears on the copyright page
Janette Oke and T. Davis Bunn
Step 8
Tab to next field
Copyright date
Enter last copyright date
For instance
2001 2002 Janette Oke
Enter 2002
Step 9
Tab to format combo box choose RTF
Step 10
Jaws user Press plus key on number pad to turn off forms mode
Arrow key down to browse button
Press enter to activate button
Shift tab to list of files and folders
Back space takes you back a level arrow key up and down to find what you need
Find file or folder and Press enter to select and go to next level
Browse and Select file and press enter to select it
Step 11
Enter Short Synopsis for your book
if you want the validator to do it enter none
Step 12
Enter quality of book?.
Rate fair, good or excellent
This is a radio button to choose only one
R is key for for radio button
Step 13
Choose all categories that qualify for your book.
This is a check box for each category
X is the key for check box
Step 14
Check box for adult content
Leave unchecked if not adult content
Check if the book is adult content.
Step 15
Enter ISBN number
I go to christianbook.com
And then look up my copy of the book or copy and paste from my book
I also use amazon.com and choose link for page optimized for screen readers.
For Christianbook.com
Press e for edit
Type in book title
Press enter
Press c for combo box until I hear sort by relevance
Then arrow down until I hear title of book
Press enter
Control f find
Type isbn
Copy and paste into field on bookshare
Make sure it?s the same copy as the one you have
scanned ?.like hard back, paper back so on.
You can do the same on Amazon to verify your
correct if you prefer Amazon and your book is more likely to be found there
Step 16
Enter long synopsis of book
This is where many enter from book cover or from
back cover and paste it into this field.
Or you write your own long synopsis.
You can also leave this field blank
I note
From back book cover
Or
From book jacket
Then paste the scan if it came out of the long synopsis.
Step 17
Enter comments for validater
I would enter
New volunteer to contact with questions email and add your email
This is also where you can note dialec or grammar
issues or intentionally has misspelled words or foreign language
Whatever you think they need to know.
Raw scan, or
Read through entirely excellent scan
Or
Many foreign words
Or child speaking misspelled words in text intentionally
Whatever you feel needs to be said.
Step 18
Next press upload button
Your finished.
