I hadn't thought about the suspicious regions setting much. If I set it to ignore, will it reduce these characters? I'll have to try that.

Hi Laura ann,
Sometimes the OCR confuses the binding and its shadow for text, usually I or
J or vertical bar or slash but sometimes other stuff too. One thing that can
sometimes help get rid of some of that junk is the suspicious regions
removal tool. I'm a little behind and only running Kurzweil 9, so maybe one
of the version 10 users here can give you some tips on how to use this
feature.
