Hi Rick,

Glad you got it all worked out! You know that you can save the display
setting in your default settings, right, so you won't have to mess with it
again?

Glad you're back with us submitting books!

Mayrie

I have that font size thing fixed now.
I guess it was completely the Single Font display setting in my K-1000.

I also had to think, to set all the book text to font size 12. And then I
did the settings for all of the headings.

I think I am all good.
Soon, a new submission on the way!

Thanks.
Rik

Hi Rick,

I wrote in answer to your note to the K1000 e-mail list, but I just wondered
after writing that response, have you tried disabling the "single font"
setting in the display settings to see if once you make a font change, it
sticks? If that works, then you have your answer.

Good luck!

Now I need to go check my display settings!

Fearfully,
Mayrie

And a variety of questions

Hello,

I was glad I saved this message below.
I am attempting now to edit my scanned book that has big section headings,
part 1 and 2, etc., and chapter headings, and even smaller section headings.
I am attempting to change the font sizes to the specs cited by Scott, in the
proofreaders manual.
Since I have started to use Daisy navigation of my scanned books, best I
can, I figure I may as well do what I can right at the scanning process
before submission of my book. And hopefully this will be nice for you
potential proofreaders, if I learn to do this correctly.

But I need an answer to my situation.
I am editing using version 12 of my K-1000 program.
I wonder if any of you other volunteers could help.
When I make the changes in K-1000, they seem to not remain.
I went through and made a number of the changes to the font size.
But just to double check myself, I found when returning back to the
previously changed font size headings, I find that they are back to what
they were!
Well, gee. Glad I checked. But I wasted some time here, me thinks.

My only guess is in the Display Settings of my K-1000, which has the Single
Font setting enabled. This means that the display is going to use a
specified single font for the display screen. To disable this means that
the display on screen is at the font size that the K-1000 scanning found the
text to be.

Would this be the cause?
If not, what?

Any ideas?
I guess I could do this editing in Wordpad. But I sure like being able to
navigate to the sections with the bookmarks I have set at various levels in
my K-1000, so it seems like I just need a couple of tips here.

Thanks.
I will post this query to the K-1000 discussion as well.
On your mark. Ready. Go. Who will answer me the soonest! (smile.)

Rik,

Here's the basics on DAISY navigation:

                     4) Use these font sizes: For the:
20 point + BOLDING Book title
18 point + BOLDING Larger section
headings (such as "Part I", or "Section 2")
16 point + BOLDING Headings for each
section in the Front Matter, & Back Matter
16 point + BOLDING Chapter headings
14 point + BOLDING Chapter subheadings
                          12 point Text in the
body of the book

                     5) Maximum font size for anything in the file: =
20 point
Minimum font size for anything in the file:
= 8 point

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] levels of daisy navigation in scanned books? And a
variety of questions

Should we as book scanners ever see the day that we will scan our books and
set the multi-levels of Daisy navigation?

I sure have been enjoying my own book scanning creating the Part 1 and part
2 as one level, and then the chapter headings as the next level down and so
on.
And this still has the page breaks as navigation, too.

I think from submitting a couple books, the RTF files do not have that
capability, do they?

And while I am asking silly questions, some books we are getting to
download, they have the daisy with image version as well as just daisy.
What is that all about? Can anyone enlighten me?

I had been more actively volunteering, and am just returning for a bit with
a few books I wanted to submit and may try to proofread again.
Are there a ton of changes since say about 18 months ago as far as
proofreading goes? It seems that might be the case.

If so, and you have it handy, please post the link to the most fresh version
of the volunteer manual.

Thanks everyone for all your great work!

Rik
