Pedantry and mastery are opposite attitudes toward rules. To apply a rule to the letter, rigidly, unquestioningly, in cases where it fits and in cases where it does not fit, is pedantry... To apply a rule with natural ease, with judgment, noticing the cases where it fits, and without ever letting the words of the rule obscure the purpose of the action or the opportunities of the situation, is mastery. -George Polya, professor of mathematics (1887-1985)

The trick with eBay is patience and sniping. Also, we can work with a less desirable copy since we can destroy it when we are done. We are not buying it to keep, but rather transform. Grin. I have set a search for it and will monitor.

If you get if for that I'll be thrilled to bits! smile. Midnight Moon had been going for $250 to $500 on eBay auctions, unfortunately, or at least was when I was trying to buy it (I gave up!). People snipe the price up at the last 2 or 3 seconds.

sigh. I've wanted to read this book for over 30 years and never have been able to get a copy!

There is a good shot I could get a copy for under that. I will let you know more closer to auction close on the two copies currently up.

Hi Valerie,

Smile, but nothing above that, smile.
Depends on what is reasonable, smile, haven't mastered Ebay, haven't bidded in a long long time on there.

Well, Amazon's cheapest used copy is a whopping $96, but eBay has
a couple editions still in the more reasonable range, but they
still have a ways to go. It looks like both have staining and
yellowing, though. Might need a sighted person to confirm in some
   places.

How much are y'all willing to pay if I watch them?

If you can find any of these G.A. Henty books that are cheap
and someone is willing to scan them, I think they'd be good
additions to the collection. It's more likely that they'd be
found at a garage sale rf flea market or used-book shops.

           Dear Booksharian Friends,
In a couple of weeks Akron will have an antiquarian book
fair with over 60 dealers. Often these books, many of
which are rare collector's items, are too expensive for
our Volunteer budgets, but you never know what perfectly
           priced treasure is there.
I haven't saved all of the exchanges about series or
authors some of you are trying to cover. If you are
looking for any books, write to me off list with the book
name and author and the highest price you'll pay. If I
find what you're looking for I'll buy it and the postage
to send it to you will be my contribution.
I could also call you on my cell before buying anything
for you, and, you can pay me after you get the book.
I'm not sure what I'll be looking for; probably something
Irish, Scottish, Welsh or poetry. The fun is in the search.
                        Always with love,
                        Lissi
