Kim, books run anywhere from about a 4 inch by 6 inch mass market paperback to really rather large hard backs. Usually the really large hardbacks are what they call coffee table books, and contain lots of pictures. At least those are the really large ones I've seen. However, just because it is one size in print, doesn't mean it will be the same size after OCR. Legal size is 14 inches long and I can't remember if it is 8.5 inches wide, or a little wider. I'm thinking the executive is the one that is a littler wider. That is if you have it set to portrait. If you have it set to landscape it would be wider than it is tall. However, you can quickly check the dimensions of any setting by tabbing past the dialog box where you select between letter, legal, etc. The first box tells you the width, and the second tells you the height.

Hi, Melissa, I know some Braille books are about 11-1/2 wide. What is the
usual width for printed books? I'm sure they vary. All I do is ask the page
setup to be in legal, but I have no clue how long and wide legal pages are.
Regards, Kim. P.S.: Your message is interesting. K.

When you say Word's page breaks, I believe you are talking about soft page
breaks. If so, this is correct. That said, I usually set all my margins to 1
inch and set the paper size to custom, which I set at 8.5 by 22. This
eliminates almost all soft page breaks. When I do this, Word says that some
margins are set outside the printable area, but I tell it to ignore that.
All this is done in the page setup dialog in the file menu in Word versions
prior to 2007. I'd have to take a look at my Dad's computer to see where to
find it in 2007 and beyond, but I'd hazard to guess that it would be in the
page layout ribbon.

Am I correct in understanding that as long as we have hard page breaks and
correct page numbers that we don't have to worrry about Word's page breaks?
