Yes, it can be a lot of work, but be sure that your work is very much
appreciated, especially with science books.  Most of us couldn't manage that
book, because we couldn't check with the print copy.  Just make sure you
aren't working on a book that is already available, or you will really be
upset about the time spent. :-)
