I had heard this about BNs reader a few days ago, but hadn't had a chance to check it out for myself. I would also add that shortly hearing that BNs reader was somewhat accessible, I call Barns and Noble to ask them about this. Once I got past the sales rep to a manager, I had a very good conversation with him. I encouraged him to work with the screenreader companies to build more accessibility into the program. He said he would pass that on to development and said that they were constantly updating their software. Hopefully, this will mean more access for us in the future.

Hi, every1: Just a quick note to let yall know that while my vertigo is flarin' cuz of the weather, I had a play w/both Amazon's kindle for PC & Barnes & Noble's e-reader. Kindle for pc is useless as toabh for us blindies & isn't worth installing--even the registration screen is a bitmap which is totally unreadable by jaws, & the books aren't any better. Barnes & Noble's e-reader, on the other hand, is quite accessible. Requires a lot of screenreader cursoring & I'm developing some jaws scripts now to make that easier to deal with. I'll probly develop somethin for Window-Eyes, too, though I hate doing it cuz I've only got a frickin demo & it tends to time out at the worst possible moments lol. Anyway, just thought I'd let every1 know that BN's digital content is accessible, & suggest politely that where we can use bn, I think we should, in order to support their access initiatives. They're coming out w/a reading device similar to the kindle soon, called a bnook. I don't know how accessible that will be, (we can only hope but not hold our breath or we'll likely end up turning very blue lol.). Anyway, retreating back into the woodwork now till I'm either needed again or come across somethin interesting I feel might be worth sharing. Blessings for your day.
