Roger, You might want to consider the "spoiler" effect of applying that rule. The describer has, sometimes, read the book and knows more than the first-time reader. Especially in a mystery the sequence and placement of clues -- including names or other details -- is meticulously calculated by authors. Granted, following the professional rule explained by Carrie we end up with series authors who don't re-introduce characters in every volume. In those cases we are safer assuming that the author's presumption is that the character is known. Whatever a describer does we have a legal obligation to retain the integrity of the author's work. Often when I am proofing the second is done, but I am inclined instead to name the person. How does everyone feel about this and what are preferences? Thanks for your help and input!
