Hi Jamie, Okay, here's how you can change a file from "read only." Find the file where it lives on your computer. Hit the context, or applications key, you know, that one to the immediate left of the right control key? Up arrow there to properties. Hit enter. Now you can tab through there and uncheck the place where it says the file is "read only." I know, it's frustrating when a submitter marks a book excellent when it doesn't seem like it is! But you're on the right track. And if you choose to continue with this one, I can guarantee you'll feel a sense of accomplishment when you finish it! One more thing to check, as this might decide the entire issue for you. Occasionally, books that have these hyphen issues also have the issue of not having any paragraph marks in them. That means that the book is really one and only one paragraph. If that is the case, I, personally, would reject the book, as I can't see to mess with inserting paragraph marks properly from the print book. And for me, it would be faster just to rescan the book, if I could get a copy. But that is just me. I don't know what editing software you're using. If using Kurzweil, the paragraph mark that you'd be looking for in the find dialogue is \n In Microsoft Word, the character string that you'd be looking to find is ^p in the find dialogue. If you find those at appropriate places, then you're good to keep correcting scannos and extraneous hyphens. If they're not there, well, then it's your call. You can release the book and let someone else work on it, or reject it, hoping that a better scan can be had. Sorry to rattle on. Good luck! You're a trooper! I let those stay, but this is ridiculous. This is why I don't take time to scan much as there are so many things you can and should tweak and I've never had time to learn this stuff. I'm a medical transcriptionist, I proof all day, but thanks for the compliment. I found out that the file is a read only file and I don't know how to change this, so am not sure what I can do with this book after all. I thought I was getting an easy one as it said excellent, almost no errors, but it definitely needs a bath. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mayrie ReNae" <mrenae@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2008 6:53 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: still more errors I'm finding and need to ask about > Hi Jamie, > > I would definitely fix hyphens where they shouldn't be.
