Hi Mayrie,

I did check a different speech engine and you're right, it did pronounce them better. The only other problem is that there's no break in speech like there would be with a comma or something like that. Dectalk is my favorite speech engine but it crashes every time I use it so I have gone to Neo speech which is better sounding as for quality but it does pronounce some words kind of weird. So I guess I'll just leave those dashes in their and hope that subsequent readers will have a good speech engine.
Thanks.

Bud

Hi Bud,

The problem that you're having with words being mispronounced that
are connected by an em dash is caused by the particular speech engine that
you are using. I use ETI eloquence and have no pronunciation problems. If
you use a different speech engine, I'll bet you notice a difference.

Mayrie

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the info. I'll try it the next time. I'm not too
familiar about the various kind of dashes. I use the dash just to
the right of zero at times. Would that one do and should there be a
space before and after? I'll try it on an old book here that I have
already sent in just in case I ruin it.
Good luck to me.
