Thank you for the posts on this topic and for sharing such a broad reach of
deep experience and personal reflection.
Especially thank you Fung for sharing your first hand experience of working
systemically with the situation of Covid19 - both with affected family members
and front line health-care workers. I was touched by what you write, it goes
'home' for me in a way that much of the super-heated steam in the media does
not. I very much liked what you offer in terms of giving respect and
acknowledgement to those who work (at risk to themselves) at the front-line of
emergency and intensive care, and for respecting the family soul of the little
one in Wuhan. I felt connected to their fate, as if I stood as a
representative in that constellation. Thank you.
One reflection that I would like to share is this - that the notion of
'man-made' being something different to 'nature made' is a curious idea. It
reflects a very old and deeply entrenched paradigm position: that man is
somehow outside of (and superior to) nature.
This position is clear in the idea that 'man is responsible for global
warming'...as if the planet had never changed its climatic patterns prior to
our ascendency. Even if one ascribes the the notion of extra-terrestrial
interference to some aspect of our DNA, simply by dint of our survival here
(and by all the fundaments of Hellinger's systemic world view) we belong here.
We are inherent to Nature just as Nature is inherently us. So anything that we
do is also done by Nature.
HOWEVER, the fact of our belonging in larger and larger systems does not
absolve us of responsibility for the consequences of our actions...Our
life-style and collectively blind greed has certainly had a profound and toxic
effect on other aspects of Gaia's greater living system. Bert has shown us that
when we shoulder our perpetrator guilt, the consequences are less likely to get
passed onwards through the system. If we cling to ideas of innocence, or blame
- we stay unaccountable - and so someone/thing else must pick up the tab for
us. Perhaps, inside this global crisis is an invitation to 'grow up'...but that
will require a great deal of compassion and non-judgemental witnessing.

systemic collectives.

I am writing to you from Hong Kong and my SCW workshop participants are mainly
from mainland China. I am about to share some experience with the cases
regarding this corona virus:
1. a Chinese client who worked in London but his parents and brother are living
in Wuhan. His whole family is hospitalized and his father has been tested
positive with COVID19, and now is in ICU with serious lung problem and kidney
failure in critical condition. The client seeked my help for how to face this
situation a few days ago. He is facing the fear that his father may passs away
and the guilt of not being able to support his mother and brother physically.
More complication was that he was sent away when he was young, the situation
stimulated his sense of helplessness again. What I did with him was only to
find out his long repressed loving words for his father and getting internal
resources to face any possibiliy.
2. we have now online courses regarding how to support people psychologically.
Front line medical professionals expressed that they were overwhelmed by
overcrowded patients, risk to be infected, but they still insist to work
because they are the guardian of bottom line. If they failed, the whole society
would pay much more substantial price. They expressed on the class that what
they really want from others are just BEING SEEN, UNDERSTOOD and RESPECTED.
3. a sad story in Wuhan: a family of three all catched the virus, the parents
and a three year old girl. Father passed away firstly, then the mother, and the
little followed them. When the little girl was passing away, she was holding a
picture of her family in her hand...
The virus is really serious and the most obvious way of transmmiting is through
saliva and physical touch. That means the most risky people are of family
member or people who are dining with those who has caught the virus. A common
phenomenon is that once a person caught the virus, the whole family may get
infected also! Or somebody goes to a dinner with a group of people then the
whole group of people got infected. However, the infected person may not have
any symptom in 14 days before coughing, fever really comes.
The virus is 'clever', disguised as 'normal cells' that confused our bodies'
immune system. The whole body was over-reacting such that was losing normal
balancing capabilities, and this is really lethal.
Now the other parts of world may be facing what Chinese has gone through.
Please take the matter seriously.
Wash your hands 30 seconds regularly, wear mask when you get to meet somebody
outside your home would be good minimum protection.

that very same gene sequence on chromosome 4. Rumor has it that they jumped for
glee when they discovered this, chanting in Chinese " Number 4 very unlucky -
Very unlucky for Donald Trump."
This Gene sequence only occurs in 20% of the population. When the virus acts on
chromosome 4 it sets off a cascade of immune reactions resulting in a cytokine
storm that destroys the lungs and kills the patient. People over 70 are
especially likely to develop the full blast of this cytokine storm. (Trump is
73). As Trump is the main architect of the trade war, the Chinese now believe
they have already won the trade war courtesy of COVID19.

for efficient spreading in the human population compared to other lineage b
betacoronaviruses. This possibly illustrates a convergent evolution pathway
between unrelated CoVs.
Note the last line about convergent evolution...between unrelated CoV's. We
know that a virus can evolve quickly which is why the flu has been so difficult
to contain since mankind started gathering in cities.
Perhaps the more interesting question (being the systemic thinkers we are) is
why we are discussing this topic in the first place on CT?
Why not just look systemically at this fear of "man-made" versus "nature-made"
threats to the general population and social order? The fears (take your
choice) are real emotions and likely represent something that needs to be seen
and included.
The bush shakes and our brain stem assumes its a tiger (or enemy) shaking it
instead of a bunny rabbit so this fear and fearful reaction does have a
function to ensure survival. From that perspective the reaction we are seeing
to the "shaking" occuring globally and the "who" or "what" our survival brain
assumes is behind it is a hard-wired defensive response. No need to be
judgmental of ourselves or others when this response arises. The opporrtunity
here is bring more of the unconscious material driving our emotional reaction
into awareness.

After I finished reading this thread, a friend posted this study and a summary
of it's findings. I'll also parenthetically comment, that as an artifact of the
US government, the term
"conspiracy theory" has an etiology and is not neutral, even though many people
have adopted it. For those concerned about what is "fear-based," the term is
used to discredit information that is not sanctioned by the US government -- by
inspiring the public's fear and doubt about new information. For many years,
concerns over GMO's were so labeled, until a court case last year revealed the
scientific association with cancer as well as uncovering proprietary
information that revealed the company producing these products buried the
science and knowingly deceived the public. In this context, to be genuinely
neutral requires including rather than excluding unwelcome information that
could impact the ecological, biological, and thought fields.
Here's the summary and the study:
“The spike glycoprotein of the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV contains a furin-like
cleavage site absent in CoV of the same clade.”
“This furin-like cleavage site… may provide a gain-of-function to the 2019-nCoV
for efficient spreading in the human population.”
Further, the science paper finds that there is no known viral ancestry to the
CoVid-19 coronavirus, meaning it did not evolve from nature. It was
*engineered*, and the science paper authors also state that the virus contains
elements from MERS, stating, “Before the emergence of the 2019-nCoV, this
important feature was not observed in the lineage of betacoronaviruses.”
