Rachelle and All,
I've seen "The Ghost in your Genes" twice, and read elsewhere about
what is now called the "new frontier" of epigenetics. It turns out
that decoding the human genome, which was supposed to explain so much,
has in many respects only led to a deeper issue--genes are coated and
the coatings turn sets of them on and off in various ways. While the
genes themselves are not affected by the experiences of ancestors, the
epigenetic coatings are, and when these coatings re-appear in
descendants, they make things happen that relate clearly to the
ancestors experiences. This is now "hard" science, and proves that
Lamarck (who opposed Darwin by saying that experiences could affect
descendants) was on the right track after all.
So far, this is pretty much on the level of things like a famine
during childbearing years in the grandmother's life creates
susceptibility to various things in a grandchild's life. So it is not
yet rich enough to explain the kinds of things we work with. But it
opens a fascinating door. Personally, I don't think this will
ultimately remove the need for some sort of "field" effect model as
well. But it may be another important piece of the puzzle.
Thanks so much for these conversations.
Best,
Michael

Dear Anne,
Following this thread in yet another and similar direction - have
you seen
the BBC documentary from 2005 "The ghosts in your genes"? For me it
was
exciting to see science look into this - and in my opinion their
findings
support our experiences in constellations. Here is the link if you
want to
watch it:
