Hello Brenda and all,
When Bertold was unable to go to Portland due to illness, Jane asked me to facilitate one of his workshops called: Vietnam, Scars of the Past. A local group that works with vets came, bringing several vets and also the grown daughter of a vet who died in a helicopter crash in Vietnam. The other vets that came, were buddies of the woman's father, knew him well, and had intimate details of his death. I worked with her, the issue being her lifelong grief for the father she never knew. The second constellation, was with a man whose best friend was killed while they were together in Vietnam. His guilt was enormous and had impacted every area of his life with the result that he had "lost" his family, his job, his friends. This constellation was VERY difficult for the representatives to "hold". The grief of both men was enormous. Both of these pieces were extremely intense and very painful but the outcomes were very moving. War affects everyone.
I have intended to write up these pieces in detail but have not yet done so. Now these questions motivate me to take the time that of course will not otherwise present itself, and do so. Several others may be reading that took part in the workshop and it would be great to hear their experience as well.
Stephan Hausner is my guest at the moment, having come to facilitate workshops in 4 venues on Systemic Medicine. I know that I will want to share that experience as well because it is a first entry of the work into the local healthcare community. My further write-ups re:Vietnam must therefore wait till next week.
All the best, sheila
