Hi Susanna,
As a mediator I was told to not mediate situations involving friends and
family…..Well, what do you do when you get a call from a friend asking for
help?….I mediated and it worked because everyone involved saw me as fair. I
was also told not to mediate issues that were close to home. Well, that would
have been disastrous for some people too. In the end I was the right person
for what presented itself.
I believe I was fortunate enough to be able to distance myself in mediation and
I simply followed whatever emerged in the field when constellating for family
and friends. As I understand it…it is not wise for family members to mediate
their own issues because we can very much be blind to the issue that presents
itself in my family.
However when there is no one else around who understands the work I stepped in
with everyone understanding that we were likely “breaking a rule”….My family
members and friends were willing to accept whatever the consequences were.
10 years later, there is less need for me to facilitate constellations for
friends and family as there are more constellation facilitators available. I
may have missed some things that were too close for me to see, however, being
that my family is definitely closer than it was 10 years ago and it appears to
be getting healthier every day something definitely still worked.
Yes, we too, did as many of those constellations blind.

Dear Susanna,
We have done several constellations as a family as we have 3 boys aged 6, 9
and 11. We usually do a simple tetralemma, completely blind. I ask each of
our boys if they are available to do this and sometimes they say yes and
sometimes they say no.
Recently we did one about getting a dog. Our middle son was so wedded to the
outcome of yes that he could not even look and he decided not to participate
but just to sit with his fingers crossed for a good outcome and his eyes
tightly shut. Lucky it was a yes !
Warm Regards,
Vanessa

Subject: [ConstellationTalk] Facilitation within our own family
Greetings my fellow facilitators,
My son embarked on a big project last summer and has now stumbled upon what
"feels" like an inevitable block. I suggested we could do a simple
constellation to see who the block represents within his system. He's
enthusiastic about this possibility but before we do that I want to hear from
you & your experiences facilitating within the family system.
Thank you for your time and attention, Susana Witte
