Ì would also be very surprised if long term involvement in constellation work
caused anything other than benefit. It is worthwhile remembering the majority
of people getting involved in this work are 40 plus years old.
We should not fall prey to any silly new age ideas that suggest that if we do
all the right things that we won't age. Accordingly it is more sensible to
accept that as we age, especially from 40 onwards, we are more likely to get
serious illnesses whether we are involved in constellations or not. In other
words it is likely that Otteline is merely observing illnesses that
unfortunately are likely to appear in any group of people this age.
Having said this it is clear that people can have distressing experiences as
representatives. At this stage it is not clear to me if these experiences
really have the potential to be harmful or not. As a trained psychiatrist and
medical practitioner I feel competent to deal with difficulties. So I feel
relatively free to continue to monitor & see what happens in groups I
participate in either as a facilitator or participant.
I suspect that somehow the system helps us pick the right person to be the
representative. The coincidences that occur between the representative's life
and that of the person represented continue to amaze me. In my last workshop
the uncle of a client was killed as a child by a sharp stick going thru his
eye. The representative had come perilously close to a similar thing happening
to him in his childhood. He had always felt haunted by this experience and
since the constellation has felt at peace about it.
So it seems as if the greater soul is both benign and sophisticated in its
workings. When love is allowed to flow it seems it can benefit not only all
members of the family but also representatives.
Nonetheless this still begs the question that is "Can harm be done?" We do
know entanglements in the family soul and blind love can cause terrible harm.
So the question I am left with , bearing in mind Patrick's description of
experiencing terrible palpitations as a representative , is this:
Does anyone know of a client who has had a heart attack or stroke or flipped
into a psychotic episode while being a representative or immediately thereafter?
I believe the answer to this question could be a springboard for further useful
discussion.

I'm a facilitator in the US. My experience does not support the theory that
facilitators suffer from more serious disease. There is an emotional holding
that a facilitator supports and it is important to understand what each one
needs to do to take care of themselves. If they don't take care of themselves,
of course they are at greater risk, however, that is true of any discipline,
not specific to this one. This is just my opinion based on personal observation.
