Greetings from Arizona !
Apologies to all who have heard this from me before, and still it may be time
to state the obvious which is that when we are working with family systems
trauma is always somewhere in the mix . This is not always readily apparent to
the client or the facilitator since trauma manifests in so many and varied
guises..addictions, eating disorders,OCD, learning disability, depression,
phobias, panic attacks, allergies ,skin conditions, chronic pain, repetitive
accidents and so on.
For this reason I strongly suggest that facilitators avail themselves of some
of the excellent trauma training programs in order to learn how to recognize
and manage traumatic phenomena and therefore avoid re-traumatizing already
overwhelmed participant as clients or representatives.
In a week long workshop and meeting that Peter Levine and I had together with
Bert in Switzerland,(2003) and our students, he made very clear that he wanted
facilitators to study trauma.
Warm regards,
