As a student of FC, I find it necessary to have an understanding of what
came before and what is current in the field. It doesn't mean that I am
obsessed with the juicy details, I'm not that interested nor do I have time,
but I'd like to know because the left side of my brain is to be respected
just as much as the right side of my brain.
When I moved to our community 14 years ago on Vancouver Island, I took some
time to know who lived here before, be it 100 years ago or 200 years ago.
And it has helped me to respect and understand what is here today.
Similarly, most of us are interested in the histories of our partners and
their families when we live with them, and often, before we live with them.
For this reason, I find these discussion very helpful in where I position
myself in this study. Not position myself politically... no.. but rather
position myself intuitively the way I do when I am a representative who has
been given the green light to move about.

Part of being new to the work is appreciating and integrating
what has come before and allowing the whole flow of the work to come to
you.
For myself, if it triggers me at all then it is my work too. It's clear to
me that Bert's work and IASC's work are both going to be informing us about
this field for a long time to come and I gratefully welcome all of it into
my space and I will move with what moves me.
