There's a fine line between sharing suggestions of "what works for me" and
setting out principles of "what you should do." It's human nature to
conflate "how we do things" with "the way things should be done." One is a
personal preference, the other a universal dictum. If one facilitator finds
that staying to the left of the client is beneficial, it is helpful to share
that insight with others who might also benefit. However, this should not
be confused with a rule that says that the client has to be on the right or
the field will suffer interference.
Speaking for all the other blurry-eyed, color-blind dyslexics among us, I
can't even tell my left from my right. I'm the blind man who takes your
hand and says, "Don't you see?" I appreciate Sheila's insight even if I
cannot personally be concerned with it. I trust that we all understand that
these suggestions are intended as aids not constraints.

I think that the healing process is co-created by both the facilitator
and the client. On the road to healing, both facilitating and hindering are
possible in both persons. Choices are made, consciously and unconsciously,
some that hinder and some that facilitate.
Due to my right eye being extremely weak and not wanting too strain my
neck by looking right, I sit on the right side of my client, honoring the
client as the focus person and the leader of his process. In Germany at the
most recent Congress in May, I saw some facilitators not even having the
client come up to their left or right side but working with them from where
they both randomly sat.
