I know you implied it was largely unconscious. But even then then may have
been subtle changes that came into your conscious awareness that marked the
different way of working.
Questions that crossed my mind are: Did you notice how you did that? How did
your perception change when you do that? What opened up for you in that t
process?

Hi Chris - I am finally going through all of my emails of the last three
months - so apologize for being out of the loop in my response. I just
wanted to comment on working with a client who is deaf. Last summer, my
father, who had recently suffered a stroke and was feeling old and depressed
and diminished, came to visit me in Edmonton. With his permission, my
friends and I gathered to do a constellation. Representatives were chosen
for 'mind', 'body', 'spirit', 'emotional body', and self (This is one that
Peter deVries showed us) and my Dad sat watching. A few minutes into the
constellation he informed me that he had forgotten to pack the batteries for
his hearing aid and that it was no longer functioning. Two things were very
interesting to me in this process. 1. was that I had to let go of my
familiar ways of experiencing the work and to step into a greater trust of
all the other levels that are at work without my conscious awareness 2. was
that even though my dad was frustrated and angry at himself and convinced
that he had 'missed everything' because of the lack of hearing, when we went
out the next day to a gathering at a friend's house he spoke to the group
about his experiences in WWII in a way that I have never heard in my life.
What I have only heard before as lively, heroic or dramatic but impersonal
stories were suddenly spoken of with feeling and presence. Who knows if
this had anything to do with the constellation of the previous day, but my
sense was that he was speaking about his experiences from a more whole and
collected place within than he ever had before...

across languages. It is partly sensitivity to this energy that I would be
relying on to get me through with a deaf or even a blind client.
I was wondering if it would be practical to use a support person to "" fill
in the gaps" i.e. Someone to write down the sentences for a deaf person. Or
someone to make a spatial representation of the constellation on a board
that a blind person could feel like a "constellation Braille".
I was also wondering if it would be helpful for me to sit through some
constellations either blindfolded or with earplugs in so I could get a
subjective sense of what it is like.
Finally I wonder how these sensorially disabled people would go as
representatives & how I would deal with that.

this is very interesting. I have a bit of experience in councelling deaf
people. I used an interpretive service (run by the west australian
government). The service was free of charge for the clients. The clients
were very happy with my service.
However, I always had the feeling that on an energetic level that there was
a lot of communication happening between the client and myself that did not
have anything to do with the interpreter.
For the constellation work: I believe that a deaf person would defenitely
benefit from a constellation. How could we assist a deaf person in this
process? I think you (we) could ask a student in the field of interpreting
for deaf people, if she/he would be willing to assist in a workshop.
Benefit: 1. for the deaf person, 2. for the student (new learning
experience), 3. for the knowing field to wittnes the beauty that might
unfold.

I recently had a person who is substantially deaf asking me if they would be
able to enjoy and participate in a constellation workshop. My answer was
that the work is 70% non verbal. I suggested he could come and if it was too
difficult or if he felt he was getting nothing out of it that it would be
okay for him to leave after half a day. I am not completely satisfied with
this answer and was wondering if anyone else had any ideas or experience
with this matter.
