Both Last Orders and American Beauty are two of my favourite movies. I saw both
of them without thinking about constellation work. So it was great to consider
them both in this new light.
I would like especially to thank Dan for his review of American Beauty in terms
of perpetrator and victim energy. Once pointed out , it was liike a light bulb
going on for me.
Clearly it is helpful to reflect on how the principles we use in this work
apply more broadly in life as illustrated by Chris Millar's example with the
daughter getting involved in parents' business. I sense you applied the
principles mentioned in a sensitve & tuned in way rather than just applying a
neat formula. That is why it seems to have worked so well.
We see the same process at work when Soni talks about her succces in using the
principles of this work to help her to deal with living in a blended family.
The point is that the principles are generallizable and helpful. On the other
side i have seen them used unskillfully in a destructive way - like a set of
religious rules where peole say: "This is how it has to be. Bert Hellinger says
so" I suspect part of the reason why Bert often contradicts his own advice is
that he wants to counteract this tendency. So we are left with the questions:
a.. How do we distinguish when it is helpful to apply the principles (as
Chris & Soni have) and when is it not?
b.. How do we tell the difference? Is it only by outcome?
c.. Are some principles more useful than others?
hasta la vista
