Who makes the Vanguard synth, I know I've got it in my vst archive along
with 75 or so preset banx, so, if you let me know who, it'll save me
having to trawl thru some 3 to 400 folders...

Oh yeah, please do!
There are some arps and gates on the Vangard VST plugin, but each arp
and gate is associated with a voice, so you're stuck with whatever voice
it's assigned to a sequence.

Most of the free arpeggiator appz out there also follow the project
tempo, and practically all the free random sequenced gates...
Perhaps I should stick up a load of randomnized gate sequencer appz,
some of them are fabulous...

I've found that alot of softsynths have very decent arpeggios, and
what's more, the arpeggios follow any tempo changes you might have in
your project.

I don't know of any decent arpeggiators apart from using the step
sequence process in Sonar.
In the meantime, however, if you go to the following link, you'll
find 6 or 7 arpeggiators as well as some pre-written arpeggios as
midi files:

I'm sure there's something there that'll kick start the process one
way or another, and it could be fun...
