Hi Jean and Chris. I didn't realize recording at 44100 was still considered acceptable even with my big ideas for SACD or DVD audio surround at some point in the future. To be honest, I can't hear a difference either although audiophiles always talk about improved high-end dynamics and openness etc. I'm running a Delta AP1/2 for Sonar and it allows Sonar to render everything at 32 bit. Should I go with 24? About dropouts, getting another harddrive exclusively for Sonar projects should solve all my problems. My current harddrive has lots of room but plenty of installed programs including Windows XP. I'll report when I get another one.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Bob.----- Original Message ----- From: "Studio Montebello" <studiomontebello@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

I run a professional recording studio here and I do all my tracking at 44.1, 24 bits, of course. and I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 processors running at 2.4 GHz with 2 internal SATA drives...
With your computer configuration, you should record at 44.1 KHz and at 24 bits if your audio card allows it. That way, you'll take some load of your system and believe me, you wont notice a difference. As for recording on the only one drive, that's not a very good idea. Ideally, you should have a second internal drive to record to. Failing that, recording to an external firewire drive might be better than recording on your lonely drive. There are many factors which can cause drop outs on your systems and I certainly don't know enough about your set-up to go into this but start by recording at 44.1 KHz and if your using Sonar, try increasing the audio buffer size.
The way to do this will vary wheter you are using asio or WDM drivers. That's all I can offer for now and I hope it helps a bit. Jean Please visit my site at http://www.studiomontebello.comYou can also visit my girlfriend's art gallery at http://www.marie-helenemasse.com

Hi Jean. I'm running Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHZ with 1.00 GB of ram.I'm also getting plenty of dropouts in audio projects at 32 bit regardless of the number of tracks and even after turning off all my spyware and antivirus programs.Having said that, I record everything onto my one and only harddrive. Is itbetter to run an external and record everything onto it instead? I have my owntheories about this that probably don't need to be discussed here. If youare having these issues, it's probably because it really hasn't been tested under those conditions. Has anybody successfully loaded Piano samples from Dimension Pro at rates higher than 48000? Of course the samples themselves are all 44100 but the Dimension Pro manual says you can load them into any project at any sampling rate. Whenever I try to record something using a Dimension Pro Piano program at 96000, the upper register notes have a clicky quality, almost like a toy Piano. Also, playback causes buzzing, pops and a general malfunction of Dimension Pro. Any ideas? I would prefer to record everything in high res.
