Robert,
You can and should do several things...
First:  It is important to know that computers are not ready to work as 
recording studio machines without first setting them up and disabling some 
services that run in the background etc.  There is good information about this 
online.

also: In terms of sonar and CakeTalking, you should be pressing F6 and cControl 
F2 twice quickly for every project.  Plus, under the tools/audio settings in 
Sonar you can adjust the latency and buffering size to improve performance.

We will need to know a few things about your system including what processing 
speed and RAM you are using.o   
Have you read the CakeTalking tutorial that comes with Sonar/CT?



I also had drop out problems which have now gone away for the most part.  When 
and if they return I know what settings to target to fix the trouble.
