dual core is good. but 1.6 dual core is not as good as 2 or 2.8 dual core for
example. have you increased the latency
? 2048 sounds like asio driver. I use WDN so am not sertain. I would
recommend trying to increase latency settings (perhaps from your sound card).

also, are you using a lot of effect plug ins?

Someone else will have to answer the 2048 setting.

Are you pressing control F2 twice quickly after starting playback?

do the drop outs happen with every project?

I would check the buffer/latency settings in your Sonar. go to Options/
Audio and Tab down to number of buffers and buffer percentage. What are these
set at? What type of audio driver are you using Asio?
Also, you should disable services on your system that you are not using
such as anti virus, wireless, indexing, etc. etc.

You say your processor is 1,6 ghz? Is that 1.6 Ghz? If so, even though it
is dual core, it could be a problem. Check the settings though, 1.6 meets the
required processing speed but just barely.

    buffer amount

        Robert,
You can and should do several things...
First: It is important to know that computers are not ready to work as
recording studio machines without first setting them up and disabling some
services that run in the background etc. There is good information about this
online.

also: In terms of sonar and CakeTalking, you should be pressing F6 and
cControl F2 twice quickly for every project. Plus, under the tools/audio
settings in Sonar you can adjust the latency and buffering size to improve
performance.

We will need to know a few things about your system including what
processing speed and RAM you are using.o
Have you read the CakeTalking tutorial that comes with Sonar/CT?

I also had drop out problems which have now gone away for the most
part. When and if they return I know what settings to target to fix the
trouble.

        We'll help you out man.

        Stacy
