Hey DJX
Thanks, this sounds like it might be what I need. I was also worried about
laptop reliability. I've always been afraid of things like windows crashes and
such during performances.
What are you using for your mini DAW?
I do have a way to send to a separate headphone mix on my board, so that could
fix that issue actually. I also have an extra two channel interface.
I appreciate the advice.
Of course we were booked several gigs for the full year, and that's on hold due
to Kovid, but we are booked for New Years. Crossing my fingers that casinos
will be having entertainment by then.

I actually use a custom built mini daw on stage for this purpose. Tried a
plethora of laptops, but they are too unreliable and don't give the performance
I needed. With this setup, I've almost replicated my main daw setup in terms of
samples and libraries and such, so I can prep a set for a gig on my main daw
and trust that it will work as expected on the portable daw; it has made my
life so much easier, and has improvement performances greatly! I use it for
sounds, backdrop loops, backing loops, special effects (such as using
VocalSynth for special harmonies in songs), or other pitch effects, delays and
reverbs etc.
To answer you first query, does your mixer have a monitor feature? Meaning, can
you send one channel to the headphones buss only and not to the entire house
mix (or the main outs in your case)? If so, you can connect the onboard
computer audio to one of these channels, send its output to the headphones
only, and send the normal mix to your sound guy. You get to hear JAWS and all
the comp stuff mixed in with your mix, but nobody else gets it.
You could even do this routing with your audio interface, if you are not using
the mixer for this same purpose.
There are various ways to get the same results, it all depends on what you have
available to work with and what your workflow is like...
AFAIK soundGrid is not accessible. If you find out otherwise though, please
share! lol

Subject: [ddots-l] Live Midi Setup
Hey guys
I have a question about live performance setup.
Is anyone using plugins live on stage for vocals and instruments?
I love my setup at home, but recently decided to start looking in to running
some kind of setup live.
A major issue I thought of right away was how to navigate the fx and presets
with speech and keeping that away from the audience. I thought of a few more
variables as well, so I'm just trying to look at the process one step at a time.
I did a bit of research, and ran in to waves multirack soundGrid products. I
have no idea if that would be an advantage, or if it's even accessible.
I do have someone sighted in the band running a 24 channel Presonous StudioLive
3 board, but he has the main mix. I have my own 12 channel Mackie Pro fx board
that I run my gear through, and then send to the main board.
I also have a laptop with win10 and Reaper DAW.
I know I'm probably asking several questions which will lead to more questions
here, but I need to start somewhere.
Any advice that will send me in the right direction would be highly appreciated.
Thanks much
Ron
