Steve, Neville did everything except the mastering. I was only the last 15%
or so *grin* I've since gotten some better tools too.
Here's what I wrote about Neville for my blog:
Neville Peter: A Joyful Noise That Will Relax As Well!
Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Christian artist Neville Peter,
mastering his latest album entitled "Look Up". In this first blog article, I
am featuring Neville and his work.
It is rare that I get to work with someone so talented, with a singular
vision and clear purpose for their art. Self-produced and recorded by
Neville himself, mixes arrived polished and clean.
Mastering occasionally highlighted some tonal imbalances, but overall,
things were professional from the start, and remained so throughout the
project.
Some back-and-forth ensued, with alternate mixes received.
Occasionally, Neville would catch something I misinterpreted or missed in my
duties, which I am grateful for - this guy has sharp ears, as well as a
mighty fine voice.
Speaking of that rich voice, it was trained in church, but also while
getting a BA in Vocal Jazz and Studio Music from the University of Miami.
Neville then embarked on a profitable secular career, sharing the stage with
the likes of Gladys Knight and Cassandra Wilson, but ultimately felt
unfulfilled.
He turned his talents towards writing and performing original Christian
songs, and has penned over a hundred of these. Along the way, he has shared
the stage with Bishop T.D. Jakes, Gladys Knight, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda
Adams, Natalie Cole, Shirley Caesar, Richard Smallwood, Kurt Carr, Bebe
Winans, and has performed at both the White House and Carnegie Hall.
It was great working with someone whose standards were high and whose ears
kept me focused. I fully expect Neville's latest album to propel him and his
message even further.
