Well - I think you're off to a good start. You'll find out that with the sort of setup that you're leaning towards, there are several tactics that you'll have at your fingertips to let you achieve what you want. For instance, you mentioned drums. There are decent plugs out there that'll give you great drum sounds; I happen to be using Superior Drummer. It's quite accessible through the use of Hot Spot Clicker; but you'll need sighted assistance if you want to edit instrument parameters and so forth. The good news is that you can save everything to presets in Sonar for use in other projects.
